Challenging the liberals' narrative on Christopher Columbus
Columbus - Explorer vs. Conqueror // Enrichment vs Destruction
By Ramblin' Rose
Recently the US championed that after a lengthy hiatus, we again launched a shuttle from our soil to outer space to continue explorations. Humankind has always dreamed of what lies beyond the horizon.
Well, not all, apparently. As the mourning of the wrongful murder of George Floyd morphed into protests into vandalism into anarchy, the focus of the emotional outbursts had changed from white vs. black to the rejection and destruction of anything of this country, its history, its foundation. Rather than following the agenda stated to explore changes to better civilization, the morphed plan seems to be to destroy this country and return to the glory prior to 1492. Or, maybe even prior to 1700 B.C. when slavery was recorded - the domination of one person over another for forced labor.
At the epicenter of the riots and anarchy in the metro area in Minnesota, the indigenous peoples toppled a statue of Christopher Columbus. (Yes, similar destruction occurred in other cities. In fact, monuments commemorating historical leaders and events in many 'Western' countries have met similar destruction.) But why Columbus? Why the native Americans? How did the events of May 25th turn to the hatred for Columbus?
Columbus, as the prototypical Western white male, not Columbus the man, epitomizes the perceived prejudices of the Europeans against the native peoples, according to the multiculturalists. Dinesh D'Souza, an Indian-born American author and filmmaker, defines multiculturalism as 'a denial of all Western claims to truth.'
Was Columbus an explorer or a conqueror of the New World? Our world?
Columbus sought a shorter trade route to India and sailed west. But he never set foot on the soil of North America in any of his four voyages to the New World. History credits him with calling the indigenous peoples 'Indians' because he thought he had discovered the way to India. On his first voyage, he landed on an island in the Caribbean, probably San Salvador.
Yes, initially Columbus expressed his prejudice about the peaceful islanders, the Tainos. He said that the men were handsome and the women beautiful. D'Souza writes 'He praised the generosity and lack of guile among the Tainos, contrasting their virtues with Spanish vices. He insisted that although they were without religion, they were not idolaters; he was confident that their conversion would come through gentle persuasion and not through force. The reason, he noted, is that Indians possess a high natural intelligence. There is no evidence that Columbus thought that Indians were congenitally or racially inferior to Europeans' Reportedly, other explorers (Pedro Alvares Cabral, Amerigo Vespucci, Ferdinand Magellan, and Walter Raleigh) provided similarly positive impressions about the native peoples.
Later, Columbus found another reality in the islands. The men he left when he returned to Spain were savagely murdered by the Arawak tribes who also inhabited the region. That reality also contradicts the rosy history reported by the indigenous peoples, specifically the American Indian Movement, aka AIM.
While the exact history and origin of those called Native Americans are still under debate, it seems certain that they were not native to the Americas. Nor is the date or the path of their arrival without discussion. What is widely accepted is that they came from somewhere else. Many theorize that they arrived from Asia (some claim Africa) via the Bering Strait: probably in waves. They were not all from one homogeneous people; they identified as members of different tribes, and they fought and conquered one another for land, property, slaves, and power. Their battles were brutal.
By the time that Cortes arrived at the Yucatan Peninsula, the migrations had reached through the Americas. The Mayans had suffered defeat at the hands of the Aztecs who inhabited central Mexico. The Mayans welcomed the Spaniards, thinking that they were gods - armor, horses and weapons, and also allies in battling the Aztecs when they learned that the Spaniards planned to attack the Aztecs for their gold.
But one must also ask, who had extracted the gold from the mines? Could they have been the slaves captured from other indigenous tribes conquered by the Aztecs prior to the arrival of the White Man? Definitively, yes, according to historians.
In a Twitter exchange between Senator Ted Cruz and Ilhan Omar, Cruz schooled Omar with these words: 'As an 'indigenous person' myself, I am amused by the left's cherry-picking of history. My people, the Choctaw, were in a constant state of war with other nations, prior to European colonization of North America. My tribe also owned slaves and fought for the Confederacy in the Civil War, and instead of a rebuke, we get cradle-to-grave free health care at the expense of taxpayers. If Columbus hadn't stumbled across Hispaniola, Cuba and the Americas, someone else would have. Discovery of the region by European nations was inevitable, as were the diseases and innovations they brought with them. My region in Oklahoma was a battlefield before a single European ever set foot on the continent. Some tribes in the area, prior to the Indian Removal Act, beheaded some of their enemies and captured others as slaves.'
Those clear descriptions do not fit the narrative of the Leftists. Maybe even the modern history curricula in our schools do not match history as much as they align with the 1619 project. D'Souza observes 'Columbus has metamorphosed from a grand crusader into a genocidal maniac and a precursor to Hitler. American Indians are now beyond reproach, canonized as moral and ecological saints.'
It appears that the riots are not really about the death of a black man on May 25th. It appears that BLM, Antifa and now AIM found a moment that afforded them an opportunity to attack Western civilization and realize its destruction. What will follow? Anarchy just as with primitive cultures. We are living the dark side of Humanity.

Mike Pence's PA listening tour
One thing that's lost on the MSM about the Trump administration is that they're great listeners. That's the first thing that jumps out from Salena Zito's interview of Vice President Mike Pence. In the article, Ms. Zito writes "The vice president began his daylong trip to various corners of Western Pennsylvania in Wilkinsburg, a predominantly black suburb of Pittsburgh, meeting with the African American pastors and community members at Covenant Church to listen to their experiences with racism and the hardships that have resulted from them."
Shortly thereafter, she wrote "Pence said the first thing he heard again and again was that just public safety reforms won't be enough." Pence said "We have to continue to do what President Trump has done from the very beginning, and that is work to bring jobs, opportunity, educational excellence, school choice, and improved health outcomes to our inner-city communities, especially our African American community."
The fact that the Vice President of the United States would spend an entire day listening to people in suburban black neighborhoods explodes the myth that the Trump-Pence team sees this as a base election. Clearly, African-Americans weren't part of President Trump's base in 2016. That doesn't mean the Trump-Pence team won't try to do much better with minorities this election.
'The second thing I heard was the role of faith and the role of the church in healing that which divides in this country," he explained. "You can't study the history of abolition in America without seeing the role of the church, the populous that thundered for freeing the slaves that literally made the moral case that led us to the Civil War that led us to ending slavery in this continent."
This is totally spot-on. Christians are taught that everyone is created "in God's own image." The minute that people genuinely see others in that light, the equation changes. There's now an incentive for being people of integrity. Things change when a person's first thought is 'What would Jesus do?'
Pence then departed a few miles down the road toward Sarver, where hundreds of people lined on both sides of the street waving flags and Trump signs as he made his way along North Pike Road for his last stop: an economic event at Oberg Industries.
The vice president was there as part of America First Policies' "Great American Comeback Tour," a nationwide policy series reflecting the trade agreement and the payroll tax cut of the Trump administration. He spoke for over half an hour to a crowd of around 100 employees and apprentices spaced 6 feet apart following a panel discussion on the reopening of the economy by local Republican congressmen Mike Kelly, Guy Reschenthaler, and Glenn "G.T." Thompson.
Vice President Pence travels to Pennsylvania and " hundreds of people lined on both sides of the street waving flags and Trump signs. That's a turnout that Joe Biden could only wish was possible for his campaign. It's just more proof that the Trump-Pence campaign has enthusiastic supporters in this important battleground state. If Biden doesn't win Pennsylvania, he'll lose. It's that simple.
Biden's campaign took a cheap shot at the Pence visit, saying "It's an insult to Pennsylvanians that Vice President Pence is using Pittsburgh as a prop on the cynically-named 'Great American Comeback Tour' -- because had the Trump-Pence administration not bungled the response to the coronavirus pandemic so dramatically, there wouldn't be a need for such an enormous comeback."
When President Trump put in place the China travel ban, he stopped the spread of the virus from China. Biden's response to that decision was to call President Trump a racist and accuse him of creating a hysteria. A Biden administration would've meant a lethargic response to the pandemic that likely would've cost tens of thousands more American lives. That's the definition of bungling.

DFL limits Lake Street destruction
Back at the end of May, DFL State Party Chairman Ken Martin retweeted something that was first tweeted by former DFL Mayor of Minneapolis R.T. Rybak. Here's Martin's retweet:
Keep staying inside everyone. It's working. https://t.co/gepA7VSMJT
- Ken Martin (@kenmartin73) May 31, 2020
It's frightening that Mssrs. Martin and Rybak think that this looks like destruction was limited:
Does that look like limited destruction to you? It doesn't to me by any stretch of the imagination. Then again, Ken Martin and R.T. Rybak are expected to lie about Tim Walz and Jacob Frey. This article highlights the extent of the rioters' damage:
The destruction and looting on Lake Street left neighborhoods nearby in a pharmacy shortage. People are now finding themselves looking beyond south Minneapolis for important medications. "There's a void now on numerous, small communities," said Mary who lives a few blocks from Lake Street. Just over a week ago, people needing a prescription had options up and down Lake Street. Now, those options are gone - looted or destroyed altogether.
If that's the DFL's definition of limiting the destruction, then the DFL is too stupid to be the majority party in the Minnesota House or Minnesota Senate. That isn't 'limiting the destruction.' That's igniting the destruction.

The path to racial healing
God's View on Race
By Ramblin' Rose
On Memorial Day, a black man was killed by a white man. Shortly thereafter, race riots ensued and the deafening chant was 'Black Lives Matter.' Those who responded that 'All Lives Matter' were belittled and called bigots.
At times such as these, Christians turn to the Bible for guidance and answers. But this time, there is not as single reference in the Bible about race or when the descendants of Adam and Eve became members of different races. I searched, and I consulted with experts. It isn't there.
In Jeremiah 13:23a (ESV) we read: "Can the Ethiopian change his skin or the leopard his spots?"
From Genesis 1:26 (ESV) comes the wonderful news that we are created by God in His image. "Then God said, 'Let us make man[a] in our image, after our likeness. And let them have dominion over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the heavens and over the livestock and over all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth.'" [a]The Hebrew word for man (adam) is the generic term for mankind and becomes the proper name Adam.
Why would God not mention race in His Holy Word? The answer comes from 1 Samuel 16:7b (ESV) ": For the Lord sees not as man sees: man looks on the outward appearance, but the Lord looks on the heart."
All living creatures have hearts. The human race (yes, all in one) has a heart that has the same design and through which flows blood that transports nutrients and oxygen to the cells and removes the waste materials. All humans have one of four blood types that are each sub-divided into positive and negative for the presence of the Rhesus (Rh) factor. Blood transfusions and organ transplants occur among the races; they are not dependent upon one's skin tones. If anyone bleeds, the blood is red. We are alike; all people matter.
Throughout history, cultures have offered blood sacrifices to appease their gods. In the Old Testament, God's People also offered blood sacrifices as a foresight of the perfect sacrifice for all mankind (no reference to race or skin color) by Jesus Christ, the Lamb of God. He took away our sins.
From Matthew 22 - the Great Commandment, we learn how to live. We are first to love God and then our neighbor as we do ourselves. If we were to follow that commandment, would our present-day anarchy tear our communities and our country asunder?
What our country needs is a revival, an awakening to the Truth. That is a capital T - Jesus Christ, the Son of God, set us free by His death. In John 14:6 (NKJV), Jesus said "I am the Way, the Truth and the Life. No one comes to the Father except through me."
Freedom is ours if we trust Him.
Truth, with a lowercase t, is an ideology created by a person: that is the truth that is being applied currently. It places the 'self' first and imposes that dogma on neighbors. God probably does not even have a role in the life of those people. The result is the stress and chaos that permeate daily life now.
Fortunately, we do have the earthly blueprint to allow us to apply the Great Commandment: our founding documents - the Declaration of Independence, the Constitution and the Bill of Rights. Unfortunately, the anarchists are hellbent on destroying our foundation, our culture, our history, and us.
God made us all, and He endowed us all with unique talents to be used to worship and serve Him by serving those in need, whether they're our neighbors or whether it's someone we've never met before.
We wonder how all the issues will be resolved and order restored to our country and to us. Maybe we 'take a knee' and pray to God for His Blessings. We have a great promise in 2 Chronicles 7:14 (ESV): "If my people who are called by my name humble themselves, and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and heal their land."
We need healing. The time is now!

Democrats: the leftist hate-filled party
Each year, it's easier to make the case that the Democrat Party is aligned with hate-filled organization. What's worst is that the most hate-filled people are academics at elite universities. I wish it was surprising to know that Ivy League schools hate diversity of opinions. Unfortunately, it isn't surprising whatsoever.
Jonathan Turley's post highlights how disgusting the censorship movement has come. Though he didn't say it in his post, it must break a constitutional law professor's heart to see this type of censorship happening on college campuses.
At one point, Prof. Turley highlighted the fact that "What is most striking for me is the inclusion of Professors Mark H. Jackson and Cortelyou Kenney, who teach in the Cornell First Amendment Clinic. They are in fact the Director and Associate Director of the First Amendment Clinic, which is presumably committed to the value of free speech even at private institutions. So these professors teach free speech and just signed a letter that people who question the BLM movement or denounce the looting are per se or at least presumptive racists."
I've written here multiple times that the First Amendment still protects hate speech. The First Amendment isn't needed to protect popular or noncontroversial speech. The First Amendment is essential if you want controversial speech protected. While I don't like hate speech or the burning of the American flag, I'll defend to the death the right of people to say controversial or hate-filled things.
Congratulations to Professor Jacobson for eloquently defending himself in this interview:
Democrats only like free speech when the people speaking are saying things that they agree with. That isn't free speech. That's approved speech, which means someone is approving what's getting said. That's what happens in fascist countries. It isn't what happens in the United States.

Melissa Hortman listening lecture
The DFL Speaker of the House keeps preventing the people from being heard. She's assisted Gov. Walz in maintaining autocratic rule over the state of Minnesota. Now that there's a special session underway and she wants to pass some DFL bills, she's suddenly in favor of hearing from the people . Hortman doesn't really want to hear from the people of Minnesota. She just wants to pass some leftist anti-police legislation that Gov. Walz wants passed.
At this point, Gov. Walz's initiatives shouldn't be taken seriously. Too often, his policies have failed Minnesotans. Letting COVID-infected patients back into long-term care facilities literally killed people. Gov. Walz's Department of Health turned a blind eye toward programs that illegally shipped money to the DFL's special interest allies while cheating taxpayers.
Senate Republicans are supposed to have a say in how the state is governed. Instead, Gov. Walz has insisted that he make all the decisions without advice from the legislature. That's how banana republics in Africa operate. That isn't how things work in the United States. If Walz wants something, he'll need to do something he hasn't done much of. He'll need to a) relinquish his autocratic authority and b) do some good-faith negotiating.
If Gov. Walz insists on playing the part of a dictator, then Republicans should tell him that they don't take orders from dictators. If Ms. Hortman insists that Republicans listen to the people, Republicans should tell her that listening to the people isn't a situational thing. Legislators are the people's voice. Walz doesn't speak for each different city or community. That's the legislators' responsibility.
Gov. Walz shouldn't turn the dials on which businesses open and which businesses get financially ruined. If we had a legitimate leader, Minnesota's economy wouldn't have tanked like it has. It's time to turn the page on Tim Walz. He's a failure. He mishandled the COVID pandemic, with hundreds of our most vulnerable dying needlessly. He utterly failed with the Floyd riots, with minority neighborhoods getting destroyed because of Walz's and Frey's inaction. Walz failed by letting vandals demolish a statue of Christopher Columbus while state troopers stood by.
After the statue was toppled, Walz said that he's upset and that there will be consequences. I'll believe it when I see it. Thus far, Walz has been a wimp. We don't need people who promise consequences after-the-fact. We need proactive leaders who do the right thing the first time. That person isn't Tim Walz. It's time for him to be shoved off the stage.
As for Ms. Hortman, I suspect that she's serving her only term as Speaker. She's represented the Twin Cities only. She hasn't represented the other parts of the state.

Minneapolis manifesto explains their opportunistic riots
This manifesto highlights the tactics used by the Minneapolis rioters. It's part after-action report, part cheerleading document, part tactics manual. Mostly, it's a long read. What's obvious throughout is that the rioters and looters acted in opportunistic fashion to help advance the overall goal.
One thing that's immediately clear is this wasn't just a bunch of activists protesting. They didn't start off as organized in the traditional sense. They morphed as the nights went along. One of the key groups were the "Medical Support." According to the manifesto, this "included street medics and medics performing triage and urgent care at a converted community center two blocks away from the precinct. Under different circumstances, this could be performed at any nearby sympathetic commercial, religious, or not-for profit establishment. Alternatively, a crowd or a medic group could occupy such a space for the duration of a protest. Those who were organized as street medics did not interfere with the tactical choices of the crowd. Instead, they consistently treated anyone who needed their help."
We'll find out later in the manifesto that the looters resupplied the medics with water by looting stores in the neighborhood near the Third Precinct. There were some looters out for personal gain. It's just that lots of looters took the opportunity to steal what they needed to escalate the violence.
Peaceful Protestors
The non-violent tactics of peaceful protesters served two familiar aims and one unusual one:
- They created a spectacle of legitimacy, which was intensified as police violence escalated.
- They created a front line that blocked police attempts to advance when they deployed outside of the Precinct.
- In addition, in an unexpected turn of affairs, the peaceful protestors shielded those who employed projectiles .
The supposedly peaceful protesters were used like human shields. In the future, police and national guards shouldn't let these protesters go unpunished. If they simply protest, that's protected. The instant that they're used as human shields to protect rioters, they aren't protected. The First Amendment protects " the right of the people peaceably to assemble. "
Whenever the police threatened tear gas or rubber bullets, non-violent protesters lined up at the front with their hands up in the air, chanting "Hands up, don't shoot!" Sometimes they kneeled, but typically only during relative lulls in the action. When the cops deployed outside the Precincts, their police lines frequently found themselves facing a line of "non-violent" protestors. This had the effect of temporarily stabilizing the space of conflict and gave other crowd members a stationary target. While some peaceful protestors angrily commanded people to stop throwing things, they were few and grew quiet as the day wore on.
According to their own words, these protesters were complicit in the violence. This isn't police speculation. This is a manifesto written by the people who carried this out. While it's true that this wasn't organized in the traditional sense, it's equally true that these 'troops' were well-trained in street warfare . Lots of people were capable of doing multiple jobs. This is displayed here:
After the police responded with tear gas and rubber bullets, the ballistics squads also began to employ rocks. Elements within the crowd dismantled bus bench embankments made of stone and smashed them up to supply additional projectiles.
It's difficult to picture how the entire crowd wasn't complicit in these riots. With different groups moving from station to station, why shouldn't we anticipate them getting into the action?
The manifesto is a lengthy read but it's important reading. We shouldn't think of these mobs as being poorly trained or ill-equipped. Clearly, they're well-trained and properly equipped. Most importantly, they're trained in restocking the shelves to sustain the rioting.
Finally, it's important to state that the vast majority of protesters/rioters have never for a Republican in their life. These people don't think the police serve a worthwhile function. These people are DFL mainstream in Minneapolis.

Organized anarchist mayhem
After I wrote this post , a thought pierced through my thick skull. This isn't about a policy fight. It's a street fight being waged by well-trained rioters and anarchists. These rioters took the time to figure out a battle plan. People were trained to help fighters overcome police tactics.
While Capitol Hill Democrats (the ones in DC, not Seattle) insist that they won't defund the police, the people in the streets don't just talk defunding. They're taking action to abolish police departments (plural, not singular). Since funding police departments comes from municipalities, the things that DC Democrats say is irrelevant.
Here in Minnesota, the DFL House is gearing up for a fight about police reform. This is window-dressing. Again, it won't affect Minneapolis, Minnesota's biggest city. They're trying to eliminate their police department and replace it with shrinks, social workers and who knows what else.
Right now, Ground Zero is Minneapolis. That won't last forever. Whoever trained these streetfighters didn't do this to eliminate the police department of a mid-sized city in the Midwest. This is intended to be used nationwide.
This goes beyond partisan politics, too. The manifesto/handbook is intended to give other anarchists a playbook to follow in tearing down governments. What's frightening is that Democrats haven't noticed that they're supporting a cause that they don't have control over. As usual, Democrats see this as a political movement. This isn't a political movement. It's a let's-restructure-government movement that seeks to tear down the Constitution.
In case people hadn't noticed, these anarchists a) hate America with a passion, b) hate the Constitution and c) want the Bill of Rights demolished. Why should we think that this is anything except a powerplay? This isn't just a movement. It's a multi-faceted organization.
During the rioting in NYC, pallets of bricks were found at pre-staged locations. In Minneapolis, Black Lives Matter rioters just happened to find concrete blocks on a walking bridge on I-94, which they then threw at police officers. In Seattle, anarchists took over a 6-block area with virtually no resistance. After the riot, the Seattle police chief, Carmen Best, held a press conference. She told her officers that she didn't have anything to do with the capture of the police station, hinting that Mayor Durkan ordered the stand-down.
These riots are just starting. Rest assured that they'll spread. This won't be, in the words of Seattle's Democrat Mayor Durkan, a summer of love. This is shaping up to be a summer of hate, arrests and riots.

Exposing the systemic racism myth
People with common sense have known for quite some time that the systemic racism meme that Democrats have pushed is a myth. This morning, that myth got exploded with reality when rumors started that St. Cloud police officers had shot 2 black men. That led to St. Cloud police using "tear gas and chemical irritants early Monday morning to disperse about 100 people who marched on police headquarters."
What actually happened was far different. According to the article, "The rumors emerged after a police officer was shot in the hand shortly after midnight Monday by a suspect during an altercation in the 1000 block of 10th Avenue South." St. Cloud Chief of Police Blair Anderson responded, saying "This place could have been on fire because of a lie."
With racial tensions running sky-high, it's amazing that things were limited like this:
Officers chased and caught the suspect in the 1000 block of 10th Avenue South. The suspect physically resisted arrest and during the struggle, the suspect shot a handgun and hit one officer in the hand. Officers did not shoot their weapons and took the suspect into custody. The handgun was recovered at the scene of the incident, as was another firearm, Anderson said.
That these police officers didn't fire their weapons is proof that racism isn't inevitable. It's possible that people can get trained to respond properly. Racism is only systemic when there's a corrupt culture within a police department that tolerates bad behavior. That isn't systemic. That's episodic.
Chief Anderson is right in pointing out that his officers handled things right, both at where the shooting happened and at the police station. Chief Anderson provided additional insight into the incident in this article :
"This was one of those situations that could have gone markedly different," Anderson said. "This was one of those situations, and let me be clear because what I'm hearing across the nation is people asking, well, what constitutes the use of deadly force? This did. And our officers showed great restraint, great professionalism because that's how we do what we do."
Then Chief Anderson added this information:
"Things can get blasted all over creation right now and it is very reckless in my opinion, it's very dangerous. And this is the kind of thing that could have escalated. And I am deeply concerned about that kind of stuff."
I just spoke with St. Cloud Mayor Dave Kleis about the policy aspect of things. Something that Mayor Kleis emphasized is something that he's famous for -- his weekly townhall meetings. Mayor Kleis says that that's how he's built relationships with people. It isn't surprising that people disagree with Mayor Kleis. That's fair game. Building relationships, though, are important for situations like this.
Mayor Kleis verified that 2 windows were broken at the 9th Ave. Police Station. Kleis confirmed that other damage was inflicted on the rioters' march over from where the initial incident happened. Those suspects will be prosecuted when they're apprehended. The BCA and the federal government are working on that aspect.
