A night of majesty

Christ has been called many things, including the Messiah, the Word, the Alpha and Omega and Lord of lords. Each Christmas, I read the Christmas story from Luke Ch. 2 . I always pick the King James Version of the Bible for that reading because of its royal language:

1 And it came to pass in those days, that there went out a decree from Caesar Augustus that all the world should be taxed. 2 (And this taxing was first made when Cyrenius was governor of Syria.) 3 And all went to be taxed, every one into his own city. 4 And Joseph also went up from Galilee, out of the city of Nazareth, into Judaea, unto the city of David, which is called Bethlehem; (because he was of the house and lineage of David:) 5 To be taxed with Mary his espoused wife, being great with child. 6 And so it was, that, while they were there, the days were accomplished that she should be delivered.

7 And she brought forth her firstborn son, and wrapped him in swaddling clothes, and laid him in a manger; because there was no room for them in the inn. 8 And there were in the same country shepherds abiding in the field, keeping watch over their flock by night. 9 And, lo, the angel of the Lord came upon them, and the glory of the Lord shone round about them: and they were sore afraid . 10 And the angel said unto them, Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people. 11 For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord. 12 And this shall be a sign unto you; Ye shall find the babe wrapped in swaddling clothes, lying in a manger. 13 And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God, and saying, 14 Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men.

If ever there was a night when people beheld God's majesty, it's the night of Christ's birth. This is the only time in history when people saw the Heavenly host. If ever there was a night when people felt excited and in the presence of God, that was the night. That's the reason why He's rightly called "the King of kings."

While Jesus is worthy of endless praise, that isn't the example he set. It's that He entered time and space not as a majestic ruler but as a little baby reliant on His mother. The Hebrew nation was expecting a militaristic king like David. The Bible says that David was "a man after God's own heart." Jesus didn't come to win military battles. Jesus came to transform hearts and minds.

Finally, the Heavenly host appeared to shepherds tending their flocks out in the countryside. They didn't appear to the Sanhedrin or the priests who were of Aaron's lineage. The Sanhedrin, Pharisees and the priests were considered the holy people of the nation of Israel.

Thank God that He cared about all people, not just the exalted people in society.

Libert's foolishness identified

In this article , outgoing St. Cloud City Councilmember John Libert said "If you look at the city council as a job...the job description basically is making sure the city is running well. Part of your job description isn't talking about national issues - immigration, the Mexico wall, our relationship with Canada. It may be a personal issue someone may have but it's not part of your job description so you've got to focus on your job description and do your job."

It's sad that Councilman Libert didn't do his homework on the subject. The Refugee Act of 1980 in 8 U.S.C 1522(2)(A) gives specific instructions to city councils on their responsibilities, saying "The Director and the Federal agency administering subsection (b)(1) of this section shall consult regularly (not less often than quarterly) with State and local governments and private nonprofit voluntary agencies concerning the sponsorship process and the intended distribution of refugees among the States and localities before their placement in those States and localities."

It's indisputable that city councils are part of local governments. It's equally indisputable that federal agencies have a responsibility to "consult regularly" with city councils " before [refugees are placed] in those...localities."

Apparently, Councilman Libert hasn't figured it out that he had a responsibility to monitor primary resettlement in St. Cloud. Thankfully, he's been relieved of those responsibilities.

Libert said Johnson's "bashing of St. Cloud State" during his tenure on the council was the "dumbest thing in the world. What you've got to do is say, 'St. Cloud State, we know you've got some enrollment issues but we're here. What can we do to help you?' We can hold our hands out and our hearts open," Libert said.

Paul Brandmire defeated Libert this past election. I'm confident he'll make smarter decisions than Libert did.

Harris, Hirono hate Catholics

Based on this article , it's apparent that Democrat senators haven't read Article VI, Clause 3 of the US Constitution. That clause prohibits religious tests, saying "but no religious test shall ever be required as a qualification to any office or public trust under the United States."

Sen. Hirono, (D-HI), and Sen. Harris, (D-Calif.) recently sent questions "to District Court judge nominee Brian Buescher, [challenging] his suitability for the bench because he belongs to" the Knights of Columbus, a Catholic organization:

Sens. Mazie Hirono and Kamala Harris, in written questions to District Court judge nominee Brian Buescher, challenged his suitability for the bench because he belongs to this charitable Catholic group. Hirono claimed that the Knights have taken "extreme positions" such as affirming Catholic belief in traditional marriage and even asked Buescher, "If confirmed, do you intend to end your membership with this organization to avoid any appearance of bias?" In today's Democratic Party, the new McCarthyism asks, "Are you now, or have you ever been, a member of the Knights of Columbus?"

It isn't difficult to make the case that Sen. Hirono hates men. This video uses Sen. Hirono's own words to make the case that she hates men:

This isn't the first time Democrats have used a religious test:

Last year, during confirmation hearings, Sen. Dianne Feinstein noted the devotion of Judge Amy Coney Barrett and her family to the Catholic Church and admonished that "the dogma lives loudly within you, and that's a concern." Sen. Feinstein's devotion to ignoring the Constitution speaks loudly about what's her highest priority.

When the Democrats cave

There's no doubt that Democrats will cave on building President Trump's wall. The only question is when it'll happen. Democrats have already admitted that what's in effect isn't working. Further, Democrats can't hide the fact that they've voted for border wall funding previously. In fact, rather prominent Democrats have voted for the wall, including President Obama, Hillary Clinton, Chuck Schumer, Dick Durbin and Dianne Feinstein. In fact, that quintet voted to spend much more than the $5,700,000,000 that President Trump is asking for right now.

How can these Democrats continue to say no with this information floating around out there? Let's remember something important about President Trump's election. Voters signaled that they were tired of politics as usual. They demanded politicians that actually got things done. Thus far, Democrats have sounded like obstructionists.

President Trump has made counter-proposals. Democrats haven't. They've just repeated their mantra that they're for border security, too. I'm not saying that Republicans have done the right thing. They've failed, too.

Byron York's article highlights the Democrats' hypocrisy:

In 2006 Congress passed the Secure Fence Act, which mandated the construction of multilayer pedestrian fencing along about 600 miles of the U.S.-Mexico border. It passed with big, bipartisan majorities: 283 votes in the House and 80 in the Senate. Some top Democrats who are still in the Senate today supported the fence: Chuck Schumer, Dianne Feinstein, Ron Wyden, Debbie Stabenow, and Sherrod Brown. Just the next year, Congress made clear it didn't really mean what it said. The new law was amended to make fence building optional.

In 2013, Congress got back into the fence game. The Gang of Eight comprehensive immigration reform bill included something called the "Southern Border Fencing Strategy." It called for 700 miles of at least single-layer pedestrian fencing along the border. It wasn't a standalone measure; the fence was to be part of a broader package of border security measures alongside provisions that would create a process by which the nation's 11 million illegal immigrants would ultimately gain a path to citizenship.

It's just a matter of time before Democrats are forced to cave. They've been dealt a difficult hand despite what the MSM has written. At some point, they'll have to do something that will upset their base. They can't continue to play to the Democrats' worst instincts.

When Democrats listen to their hard left wing, they lose bigtime. Democrats will lose because they're liars. It's painful to listen to this particular liar:

I just read President Reagan's final speech from the Oval Office. Despite what Ms. Pelosi said, President Reagan never once mentioned the Statue of Liberty in that speech. That's why I won't trust her on border security.

Just because the democrats have voted for the wall in the past does not mean they will cave. If it weren't for hypocrisy and double standards, the democratic party would not exist.
