Keith Ellison's chutzpah

It's understatement to say that Keith Ellison has chutzpah to spare. This week, Ellison criticized Doug Wardlow for being a mouthpiece for special interest groups while speaking at the Minnesota AFL-CIO headquarters.

While at the AFL-CIO headquarters, Ellison said "The special interests already have high-powered lawyers on their side. They don't need another one in the Minnesota Attorney General's Office."

To his credit, Wardlow hit back hard, saying "Keith Ellison, he wants to talk about anything other than the domestic abuse allegations against him." With the judge just unsealing Ellison's divorce records this past Thursday, rest assured that this wasn't Ellison's best week in politics ever.

Then again, Ellison hasn't had many good weeks lately. He certainly didn't have a great week when Karen Monahan accused him of sexual assault. Ellison definitely didn't have a great week when various bloggers highlighted the fact that Ellison has frequently supported cop-killers.

Ellison not only supports special interest organizations. He couldn't thrive without their support.

In the past, Ellison was a politician in the minority, a bomb-thrower. This time, he's running to become Minnesota's chief law enforcement officer. John Hinderaker summed things up beautifully in this post , titled "Who wants a pro-crime attorney general"?

If you want a pro-law enforcement attorney general in Minnesota, the only choice is Doug Wardlow:

Does Bret Stephens realize how foolish Democrats are?

Frequent readers of LFR have heard me use the quote about Yasser Arafat where others said he "never misses an opportunity to miss an opportunity." Further, I've said that the quote fits the Democrats perfectly.

Apparently, Bret Stephens thinks the same thing about Democrats. That's the only conclusion you can reach when you read his article say "Michael Kelly, the legendary journalist who died covering the invasion of Iraq in 2003, once wrote that the 'animating impulse' of modern liberalism was to 'marginalize itself and then enjoy its own company. And to make itself as unattractive to as many as possible. If it were a person,' he added, 'it would pierce its tongue.'"

There's no disputing the fact that Democrats have recruited some good fits for the districts they're running in. Similarly, there's no disputing that the Democrats are having a gigantic fight within itself to determine who will control the Party. Right now, the angry mob wing of the Party appears to be winning.

While the Democrats might've recruited some moderates, there's no disputing that House Democrats' leadership is still far from moderate. Further, while Democrats can point to a bunch of their candidates saying that they won't vote for Nancy Pelosi to be the next Speaker, few people believe that.

It pierced its tongue last week when New York's Representative Jerrold Nadler pledged to use a Democratic House majority to open an investigation into Kavanaugh's alleged perjury and the 'whitewash' investigation by the F.B.I. A party that can't change its mind and won't change the subject meets the classic definition of a fanatic.


Democrats, much like Chairman Arafat, can't avoid missing an opportunity to miss an opportunity.

Red pushback vs. blue wave

Salena Zito is onto something . Again . This week, she opened her article by writing that "Jason Vogel is fired up to vote. He says his passion crystallized two weeks ago when he saw just how chaotic Washington would be if the Democrats seized power in Congress."

Later in the article, she wrote this about Vogel:




The 40-year-old union steward for the local Teamsters 397 says he became motivated to vote for Kelly when he realized everything important to him is being championed by President Trump and is on Kelly's ballot: "The Second Amendment, trade, job creation and keeping a good economy going, that comes to a daily fight if the Republicans lose the midterms," he said. "A lot of my friends feel the same way. We ask ourselves, 'Why would you vote Democrat?' Our lives certainly weren't better under their way of doing business ."


If Republicans focus on nothing else, they should focus on this. Americans' lives were worse during the Obama administration. More people were on welfare. Economic growth was pathetic. Wages were stagnant. The fossil fuel industry was literally targeted for extinction. Manufacturing wasn't a priority, either.

What part of that sounds like a prosperity machine. I don't want to see an America where people 'get by'. I want to live in an America where everyone flourishes. America won't flourish under Democratic control of any part of Congress. That's why I'm predicting Republicans keeping control of both houses of Congress.

Walz's honesty dilemma

Tom Hauser has put several DFL ads through the Truth Test this election. The DFL's ratings haven't been kind to them. This time, Hauser put an anti-Jeff Johnson ad through the Truth Test.

The narrator starts the ad by saying "The list of pre-existing conditions seems endless. Cancer, diabetes, asthma - even pregnancy. Under Jeff Johnson's health care plan, insurance companies could deny coverage for every single one." Of course, this isn't close to the truth. The supposed source of this information "cites Johnson's own website."

That's where That's where "the ad from the Minnesota Victory Fund PAC" falls apart. Hauser continues, saying "However, his website says just the opposite. In his 'action plan' for health care, Johnson calls for 'a new approach that drives down costs and still takes care of our most vulnerable Minnesotans and those with pre-existing conditions.'"

That isn't a minor mistake. That's a major, intentional, statement. Then there's this:




His plan calls for returning Minnesota to a "high-risk" insurance pool it used to have that was eliminated by the Affordable Care Act. His website says: "I will advocate for reinstating a MCHA-style pool for those with pre-existing conditions, guaranteeing competitively-priced coverage for everyone in Minnesotan."


It isn't surprising to find out that this ad graded out poorly:






This ad includes a mix of false, inconclusive and dated information, some of which is based on information from when Johnson ran for governor in 2014. It gets a D-minus on the 5 EYEWITNESS NEWS "Truth Test."

- A "D" is the result of at least half the information being false or misleading to the point of leaving a false impression.

This isn't insignificant because health care is a major issue in Minnesota this year, perhaps even the top issue. By lying about Jeff Johnson's policy, the Minnesota Victory Fund PAC is intentionally attempting to tilt the election in Tim Walz's favor with a major lie. That's the definition of dirty politics. I can't say that I'm surprised since the DFL has, at best , a passing familiarity with the truth.

Minnesota's races tighten

According to polling from a company called Change Research, which is described as a Democratic polling company, Minnesota's top statewide races are tightening:








Jeff Johnson trails Tim Walz 47%-44% and Karin Housley trails Tina Smith by a 46%-43% margin. I can't say that I'm surprised with those results. In fact, I wouldn't be surprised if the DFL loses both of those seats. I'm not ready to predict GOP victories in those races -- yet . That's similar to my position on the MN AG race, where I think Keith Ellison keeps sinking each week.

Newt Gingrich is one of the best predicters of races in my lifetime. Here's what he said this morning:

If Democrats don't retake the House or the Senate, that will be a crushing blow going into the 2020 cycle. At this point, it's safe to scrap the 'blue wave' myth. It doesn't exist.

Ellison's latest gaffe?

Keith Ellison's multiple character flaws are proof that he isn't fit to be Minnesota's top law enforcement officer. This weekend, William Davis, his top attack dog, gave us another reason to reject Ellison and end Ellison's political career.

This weekend, Davis left a nasty reply to this Facebook post:








What a disgusting directive. What's amazing is that Davis still has a job as I write this article. If a Republican had written this, the MSM would've been all over this like white on rice.

Because it was written by a Democrat mobster, the only sound we'll hear is that of crickets. Like one of my frequent commenters often reminds us, if the Democrats didn't have double standards, they wouldn't have any standards. Well put.

The difference between Ellison and Doug Wardlow is starting to show itself. In the next post, I'll explain why Doug Wardlow needs to be our next AG.

Doug Wardlow's priorities

After reading Doug Wardlow's op-ed , which was published by the Duluth News Tribune, it's becoming crystal clear that Doug Wardlow would make an outstanding attorney general. It's equally clear that Keith Ellison isn't interested in protecting Minnesotans.

In his op-ed, Wardlow highlights his priorities, saying "Meanwhile, even though the attorney general is Minnesota's chief law enforcement officer, the criminal law division within the office has been ignored and downsized. But Minnesota has statewide problems that need to be tackled, like the terrible sex trafficking that occurs in our state and the opioid epidemic."

Mike Hatch and Lori Swanson loved paying attention to high profile lawsuits but they didn't do a good job with crime. It's apparent that stopping crime and beefing up the criminal division within the OAG will be Wardlow's highest priority.




Playing politics means fewer resources for law and order and has disastrous results. For example, we know the number of children being trafficked is astronomically high. According to a study, each month in Minnesota, hundreds of children, usually young girls, are trafficked multiple times a day. But the arrests of the human-traffickers behind this great evil are far too low, and the number of convictions of these criminals is even lower.



That's because county attorneys, on the front lines with local law enforcement, are starved of resources. When it comes to statewide criminal enterprises, our county attorneys need coordination, assistance, and leadership from the state attorney general. That's why, on day one, I will start rebuilding the office's criminal law division.


Let's stop this horrific crime against young girls. It's long past time to permanently shut this type of crime down.



That won't be a priority with Keith Ellison. Ellison's already promised to file lawsuit after lawsuit against President Trump. Stopping sex trafficking isn't on Ellison's list of priorities.

It's time to elect an AG whose priorities include stopping sex trafficking and opioid abuse.

Lou Barletta's humanitarian stand

Monday afternoon, Sen. Casey, (D-PA), removed his despicable campaign ad . This didn't happen because Sen. Casey is a man of integrity. It happened because he isn't a man of integrity.

First, it's important to know what's in the ad. According to the article, the "ad accuses Mr. Barletta of voting to let insurers refuse coverage for people with pre-existing medical conditions. It features a woman, Stacie Ritter of Lancaster County, whose twin daughters were diagnosed with cancer saying, 'if Lou Barletta has his way, kids like mine could be denied the care they need.'"

It isn't difficult to figure out why Rep. Barletta, (R-PA), got upset with the ad. Rep. Barletta put this letter together to criticize his opponent:

Here's a partial transcript of Rep. Barletta's video:

What Bob Casey did with that commercial is one of the most hurtful, insensitive things I've ever experienced in my political career. Bob Casey knew that my 18-month-old grandson, who is a twin, has cancer. I told him and his wife a month ago. They knew what we were going through."

In pulling his ad, Sen. Casey, (D-PA), published a statement that implies that the ad "involving children stricken with cancer were unintentional" and that "he takes Mr. Barletta at his word about the impact it had on his family."

What's interesting is that "the Democrat's campaign is still running the ad in the rest of the state." That's the definition of a dirtbag. Sen. Casey's ad implies that Rep. Barletta would advocate for policies that would hurt his 18-month-old grandson. Why would anyone think that pulling the ad in a small section of Pennsylvania will eliminate the Barlettas' pain?

If I didn't know better, I'd bet that Sen. Casey is just as tone-deaf as Hillary Clinton or Nancy Pelosi. It takes some effort to reach that 'level' of insensitivity.

Unfortunately this type deceitful personal attack has become the norm. I experienced it last Wed. at the St. City Council Candidate Forum when my opponent reported on an action that did not happen, attributed the truth to an appointed city office and said I was dishonest. Clearly Senator Casey and my opponent have not take to heart the Scripture verse that I shared as part of my introduction. Here is the verse:

EPH 4-31:32. All bitterness, fury, anger, shouting, and reviling must be removed from you, along with all malice.

[And] be kind to one another, compassionate, forgiving one another as God has forgiven you in Christ.



I pray that voters will not reward those who are bitter, shout and revile others.

Campaign statements vs. governing realities

During this campaign, Democrats have distanced themselves from Nancy Pelosi . If they retake the majority on Nov. 6, they'll re-elect her to be their speaker. That's the game Democrats are playing. It's a game we should immediately opt out of.

It isn't that Nancy Pelosi isn't tone-deaf. She is. It's that other Democrats are just as bad. A vote for a so-called Democrat moderate is a vote for another Democrat lunatic. Does anyone seriously think that there's any moderates in the Democrats' leadership team?

This is a game. It's the Democrats' attempt to use a shiny object (Pelosi) to distract attention away from the Democrats inadequacies (think identity politics, income inequality, comprehensive immigration reform). Democrats don't want to talk about immigration.








Further, I'd highlight the fact that Democrats are turning increasingly violent. John Hinderaker's post highlights the fact that this violence isn't just happening in Portland, OR and NYC. It's happening in Minnesota, too.

BTW, it's impossible to picture Keith Ellison pursuing charges against the hooligans in Hinderaker's post. He'd side with the DFL. Either that or he'd pretend that it didn't happen.

Once the election is behind them, does anyone think that Pelosi won't twist these new Democrats' arms until she's speaker again? Of course she will. What's worse is that she presided over the House until the U.S. economy tanked. We don't want that all over again.

The reality is that, under Democrat governance, we'll have more crime and less economic growth. That's been proven before.
