Gun Hoax in St. Cloud

This afternoon, an anonymous caller told the 911 operator that someone was carrying a gun inside St. Cloud Technical High School. According to the St. Cloud Times, the St. Cloud Police Department has determined that the report was a hoax:
A report of a gun at Technical High School today has been confirmed as a hoax, police said. Police were turning control of the building back over to school district officials at about 2:10 p.m., said St. Cloud Police Sgt. Jerry Edblad. Students remained in lockdown, and the school district will decide when to release them. Police continued to search a few lockers about 2:15 p.m.
After the school shooting in Rocori a couple years back, the report of someone carrying a gun inside a school probably triggered nightmarish scenarios for the SCPD. Thankfully, no one was injured. I first learned about the hoax while I was out for dinner. To say that that story was the topic du jour would be understatement.
Three female students were interviewed by police. Chief Dennis Ballantine said earlier today that one of them admitted making the call to police that launched the massive police response, but police are still trying to determine who actually placed the call. The three girls, all 14, were released to their parents and charges are pending. Police don't know why the call was made, Ballantine said, but doesn't think the students had a plan to launch an attack in the school. Police did not find a weapon and Ballantine said he doesn't believe there was one. Two girls, their hands raised, were seen being escorted from the school by two officers.
These girls are in a world of trouble, assuming that they've found the caller. I hope that they're frightened at the possibility of severe punishment. To perpatrate this type of hoax isn't fun and games. It'll be interesting to see what type of punishment is meted out to these girls, again assuming that they found the caller.
