Declaring Defeat?
Yesterday, I wrote that Democrats had become
the 'Party Committed to Losing
'. After reading
this, I no long consider it an opinion. Now I've got proof.
After reading about this publicity stunt, I thought back to Kerry's claim that foreign leaders that he'd talked with were pulling for him to win. This legislation, though, would force Iraq's leaders into cheering for Republicans to win. First you had Howard Dean calling Iraqi PM al-Maliki an anti-semite. Then you have the House & Senate leadership sending President Bush a letter demanding that he start withdrawing troops from Iraq. Now California's Lynn Woolsey is attempting to rescind the AUMF.
It's unthinkable that a formerly majority party in the United States would make such such a string of hostile statements against foreign allies, much less making this series of hostile statements against a single country in such a brief period of time. To say that it's disgusting only scratches the surface. To say that it's a portrait of its unseriousness on national security matters is very accurate.

A piece of legislation sponsored by Democrats in the House of Representatives seeks to withdraw authorization for President George W. Bush to make war in Iraq, Raw Story has learned. The Iraq War Powers Repeal Act of 2006, H.R. 5875, was introduced on July 25 by Rep. Lynn Woolsey, a Democrat of California. The bill employs the rationale that since President Bush declared "mission accomplished" in May 2003, the US has been engaged in an occupation, not a war, which Congress never authorized.Ms. Woolsey's 'legislation' isn't truly legislation; it's a publicity stunt. Nobody in their right mind thinks that this legislation has a snowball's prayer in hell chance of making it out of the House, much less getting Senate approval. Getting President Bush's signature is fantasy.
Woolsey's bill has garnered 22 co-sponsors, but appears to have little momentum. The Congresswoman expressed her hope that two Republicans, Rep. Ron Paul of Texas, and Rep. Walter Jones, Jr., of North Carolina would sign on to the bill. But key members of the House Democratic Leadership are backing other resolutions to end the Iraq War, such as the phased withdrawal proposal Raw Story reported on yesterday.
