CAIR, Pelosi, Conyers Wanted Law Enforcement's Hands Tied

According to this CAIR statement, Democrats joined forces with CAIR to introduce legislation aimed at limiting key provisions of the Patriot Act. Here's a key paragraph from CAIR's statement:
"Since September 11th, many Muslim Americans have been subjected to searches at airports and other locations based upon their religion and national origin, without any credible information linking individuals to criminal conduct," Pelosi continued. "Racial and religious profiling is fundamentally un-American and we must make it illegal."
This statement was released July 15, 2004, right in the runup to reauthorization of the Patriot Act. Remember Harry Reid bragging that "We killed the Patriot Act" to thunderous applause? I do. After reading this statement, I wonder how much influence CAIR had on the Democrats' efforts to kill the Patriot Act. There's more:
Working with Conyers, the Ranking Democrat on the House Judiciary Committee, Democrats have introduced legislation to end racial profiling, limit the reach of the Patriot Act, and make immigration safe and accessible. Leader Pelosi is a proud cosponsor of the End Racial Profiling Act, the Security and Freedom Ensured Act (SAFE), and the Safe, Orderly, and Legal Visas Enforcement Act (SOLVE).

"These measures are long overdue, and we call on the Republican leadership in Congress to bring them to a vote now," Pelosi said. "As we protect and defend the American people, we must protect and defend the Constitution and the civil rights that define our democracy. Ours is a country of great diversity and we must stand together as one America."
It's obvious from her quotes that Ms. Pelosi doesn't care about security. It's equally obvious that she's more worried about racial profiling, which, in this instance, was certainly reasonable. The notion that the presumptive Speaker of the House would work to make key provisions of the biggest tool in law enforcement's hands illegal. We can't trust Ms. Pelosi to protect us if that's her idea of keeping America safe.

It's obvious that CAIR was delighted to see this type of legislation because they think that searching Arabs and/or Muslims is disgusting. Their working with Dingell, Conyers and Pelosi explains this:

Conyers and Dingell are essentially getting honored for having worked with CAIR to tie law enforcement's hands. Thankfully, the legislation never got enacted, no thanks for CAIR, Conyers, Pelosi and Dingell. Thankfully, we've still got a Republican majority that stops this type of legislation dead in its tracks.

Let's not forget that 9/11 Commissioner Jamie Gorelick tied law enforcement's hands by building the 'Gorelick Wall'. If I didn't know better, I'd think that it's genetic for Democrats to tie law enforcement's hands. We'd best not forget that they were the ones who didn't want us using data mining to connect the dots or intercepting terrorists' communications until they jumped through a ton of hoops, either.

I'd ask Americans everywhere if that's their idea of Real security at home and overseas. Here's the pertinent quote from the House Democrats' New Direction statement:
REAL SECURITY AT HOME AND OVERSEAS

Reclaim American leadership with a tough, smart plan to transform failed Bush Administration policies in Iraq, the Middle East and around the world. Require the Iraqis to take responsibility for their country and begin the phased redeployment of US forces from Iraq in 2006. Double the size of Special Forces to destroy Osama Bin Laden and terrorist networks like al Qaeda. Rebuild a state-of-the-art military capable of projecting power wherever necessary. Implement the bipartisan 9/11 Commission proposal to secure America's borders and ports and screen 100% of containers. Fully man, train, and equip our National Guard and our police, firefighters and other first responders. Honor our commitments to our veterans.
Does tying law enforcement's hands so that they can't profile Arabs for sound like a "tough, smart" plan to give us real security here at home? Only a liberal would think that it was. Thoughtful Americans would vehemently disagree.
