Politics Ain't Beanbag

That's the message King Banaian at SCSUScholars thinks Michelle Bachmann sent to Mssrs. Krinkie, Knoblach and Esmay at this past Saturday's CD-6 Convention.

The Strib seems to have noticed that message, too.

Here's a sample from King's article:

Let me begin with the conclusion: Elections are about winning. You may know this by the famous quote of Finley Peter Dunne, "Politics ain't beanbag." But what it means is that it's not meant for the soft at heart; it's damn hard work and it requires one to ignore competing goals at times.
Here's a taste from the Strib's article:

Plowing through a field that included two of the Legislature's most prominent leaders, state Sen. Michele Bachmann easily captured the Republican Party's endorsement and almost certainly its nomination for the open U.S. House seat in the Sixth Congressional District.

---------------

Bachmann, who won in part by mobilizing Christian conservatives, told the delegates on Saturday that she is "a woman on a mission" for an end to abortion, for gun rights, veterans benefits, oil drilling and road building, and against United Nations control over U.S. actions in the world.
I've never hidden the fact that I'm a Bachmann supporter. I've said in the past that part of why I've been a supporter is because she's a great advocate for issues that I believe strongly in. Another reason I'm a Bachmann supporter is because I've noticed from Day One that she's a fireball, a tireless worker for the things she believes in.

I don't mean to imply that Mssrs. Krinkie, Knoblach and Esmay aren't hard workers who'd be solid advocates for positions I agree with. I would've voted for any of the candidates had they been nominated with a clear conscience.

I agree with King's assessment that it was obvious that Krinkie and Knoblach knew they were relegated to the ABB (Anybody But Bachmann) candidates, hoping she'd falter so they could gain momentum. It was obvious to be that Saturday's first vote all but officially eliminated that outcome.

It's been a spirited campaign for the endorsement, which all the candidates agreed to abide by. Now it's time to unify and keep this seat in Republican hands. It's also time to motivate like-minded people to vote for Michelle and the entire 'Republican Team'. If we have high voter turnout in CD-6, that gives Mark Kennedy and Tim Pawlenty a big leg up on winning their elections.

For those looking for the best roundup of Saturday's convention, see SCSUScholars . Residual Forces has a nice pictoral of the goings on, too.
