Dems Signal Kavanaugh Filibuster

I doubt that'll happen but that's what the Washington Times' Charles Hurt is reporting.
Democrats on the Senate Judiciary Committee yesterday unanimously opposed President Bush's most recent judicial nominee, signaling they intend to try filibustering his nomination.
Unless I hear some quotes from Judiciary Committee Democrats, I won't put alot of weight into that speculation. That said, I wouldn't doubt that some senators would love to filibuster the nomination. Frankly, I can't picture the Democrats giving up that potential weapon on a circuit court judge, especially with rumors of John Paul Stevens retiring this summer swirling through Washington.
"While his academic credentials are undeniably top-notch, he has largely devoted his legal talent to helping notch political victories for his party," Sen. Charles E. Schumer, (D-NY), said yesterday.
So what? If you think that he'd bring his bias to the bench, then just say that outright. Don't just hint it. Sen. Schumer is a crafty, underhanded politician. He doesn't have reason to think Kavanaugh would be an ideologue on the bench. Quite the contrary. Here's a quote I included in a prior post :
"I am a liberal Democrat, and during the time we have been friends, Brett and I have disagreed on most political questions we have discussed," Washington lawyer Pamela Harris, a Yale Law School classmate, wrote to the committee. "But not once in that time has Brett been anything less than fully respectful of my views or unwilling to hear and take seriously what I have to say. He never belittles or condescends to those with whom he disagrees."
I don't know how much clearer it can be. Liberal Democratic attorneys don't think of him as an ideologue. Why should Schumer? What's happening there is that Schumer's chairing the DSCC, where he'll need lots of campaign contributions from the moonbat fringe. He can't go too easy on judicial nominees without risking losing financial support for the DSCC.

It's just that simple. In the end, the filibuster won't happen because the Gang of 14 will vote for cloture. Schumer will look like he tried and the filibuster will stay in play, at least until Justice Stevens retires.
