Feingold: Definition of Marriage Amendment Mean-spirited
In another move to the far left, Sen. Russ Feingold
characterized Wisconsin's Definition of Marriage Amendment
is "a mean-spirited attempt" to single out gay men and lesbians for discrimination. That isn't all he said.
Neither position could be further from the truth.
What the Feingold position of sanctioning gay marriage amounts to is anarchy because it's emotion-based. This isn't logic-based. Far from it.
It's also a play by Feingold to differentiate himself from Hillary in the race for the Democratic nomination. This will surely be seen as a great thing by the Kossacks.
It's this quest for power that's also driving his opposition to the NSA intercept program. It didn't matter to him that five FISA Court judges said that President Bush was within his powers.
There's something noteworthy here. He's opposed the Patriot Act & the NSA intercept program which are critical tools in protecting us from terrorists (and which are wildly popular with Americans) but he's for codifying into law social policy that the vast majority of Americans oppose.

But he went further, announcing that he favors legalizing same-sex marriages. That puts him at odds with many prominent Democratic politicians who support gay rights but not same-sex marriage. Should Feingold decide to run for the party's presidential nomination in 2008, his position would put him to the left of many likely rivals. "Obviously, it's a very difficult issue and evokes a lot of emotions," Feingold said in a telephone interview yesterday. "I think it's something ultimately that people throughout the country will accept, but it's not an easy issue."This should be seen for what it is: a secular relativist position. What gay marriage proponents are saying is that (a) they know better than societies over the history of mankind or (b) they don't believe there are moral absolutes.

The Wisconsin senator said he is prepared to work with supporters of same-sex marriage to ensure that it is legal in the future. "Further steps would be appropriate," he said, noting that his first priorities are to defeat the proposed Wisconsin amendment as well as a federal constitutional amendment that is expected to come to a vote in the Senate later this spring. There you have it. Sen. Feingold is selling his soul to the farthest left elements of the Democratic Party because his quest for the Democratic nomination overpowers all other considerations.
