"The 1,700 officers of the Capitol Police force risk their lives every day protecting constituents, staff and members of Congress," said Rep. Patrick T. McHenry, (R-NC). "The right thing to do is to commend these men and women. They deserve a pat on the back, which is more appropriate than what they've gotten lately."The Capitol Police have alot more on their proverbial plate since 9/11 and the attempt on Tom DeLay's life a few years back. That's what makes Cynthia McKinney's actions last week so reprehensible. She acts like she shouldn't be bothered to follow the rules so law enforcement isn't unduly burdened. Instead, she apparently feels like she's too important to be bothered with helping make life easier for the people who protect her. Shame on her.
"This whole incident was instigated by the inappropriate touching and stopping of me, a female black congresswoman," Mrs. McKinney said during a press conference last week at Howard University. "I deeply regret that this incident occurred, and I am certain that after a full review of the facts, I will be exonerated. That's one of the most disgusting accusations I've ever heard. I'll call for Cynthia McKinney's censure if it turns out that her accusations are fabrications. There's no room for the spreading of that type of lie. The only purpose she has of making that type of statement is to take heat off herself for her inexcusable actions.

She picked the wrong time to pull this stunt. The Capitol Police chief is leaving office because of the frustration of having to deal with Congress (since the force is under congressional supervision). What a nice going away present; the arrogant representative may just feel the long arm of the law again.
