Allan Bense vs. Bill Nelson?

It isn't official yet but if I was a betting man, I'd put my money on that being the general election pairing for Florida's U.S. Senate race. Here's what the AP wrote yesterday:
House Speaker Allan Bense may reconsider challenging U.S. Rep. Katherine Harris in the Republican U.S. Senate primary - a race he ruled out last August.

But it's a subject he doesn't want to talk about until after the 60-day legislative session ends May 5, a week before the deadline to turn in paperwork and fees to run for the position.

"She's currently the candidate and I'm a nobody. Beyond these four blocks I'm a nobody and I understand that," Bense said at the state Capitol. "The only thing that probably intrigues me more about it is the challenge, because all my life I've loved a good challenge, but I'm really just focused on what I'm doing right now."
If Bense runs, he'll win. It's that simple. Florida is a very red state and Bense is well-liked even by Florida Democrats. Furthermore, Bill Nelson is ripe for defeat. Katherine Harris is the only Republican he's capable of beating.

You can rest assured that talk of Bense running instead of Katherine Harris has Democrats scared and the DNC upset. They know that Harris is the only Republican Bill Nelson can beat. If she isn't the candidate, they know he's toast.

Let's hope that Mr. Rove is able to talk Bense into running. If he does, that guarantees GOP control of the Senate.
