Numerous St. Paul sources have contacted me with a rumor that Mike Hatch may end his campaign for governor and run for re-election.Great work Michael. It wouldn't be at all out of character for Hatch to flipflop so I'm thinking this might be the real deal.
There are a few variations of the rumor, but the basics are as follows:
1. Hatch had a meeting last evening with Wendy Anderson and Hatch informed Anderson of his intentions to run for re-election.
2. Clues of Hatch decision were to be left at his press conference today about E-85 gasoline.
While I did not attend Hatch's press conference, there were no political questions asked, nor were any clues left. The goal of this rumor may be to derail Hatch's campaign in the weeks leading up to the DFL convention. I can testify that Hatch's campaign is working in overdrive to squash the rumor.
UPDATE: I've been informed that one question was asked about E-85 policy and running for governor. I was not at the press conference so my information is second-hand.
I was also informed by two sources that Hatch orginally scheduled a news conference to announcing he was ending his campaign and running for re-election, but later cancelled. There's confusion about whether Hatch would have had two press conferences or combined them into one. This question can only be answered by Hatch.
Finally, did Entenza announce his decision to ignore spending limits to scare Hatch from running for re-election?
