Conyers on the Middle East

John Conyers issued a press release today about the war between Hezbollah and Israel. It's obvious that Conyers is clueless in terms of foreign policy. The fact that CAIR thought highly enough of it to post it on their website should speak volumes about Conyers' lunacy.
None of us condone terrorism in any way, shape, or form, and I believe Hezbollah is a terrorist organization that was, is, and remains a threat to peace in the Mideast, and must be dismantled and disarmed. This conflict cannot be resolved militarily; only diplomacy can bring an end to the bloodshed. Without the participation of the most powerful nation in the world, there will be no resolution.
This is the most insane, illogical and insulting statement I've read in ages. Conyers admits that Hezbollah is a terrorist organization in one sentence, then says that resolution of their war with Israel can't be solved militarily. Does Conyers think that the UN passing a Security Council resolution will cause a light to turn on in Hezbollah's collective mind and they say "What was I thinking? Let's obey this resolution because it's the right thing to do"?

Nobody thinks that that's what will happen because Hezbollah is a terrorist organization whose only thought is to wipe Israel off the map. When serious people discuss peace in the Middle East, they realize that it isn't achievable, that it's only possible to put out the violence for periods of time until they'll need to put out another terrorist-caused fire. The only thing that might change is that it might be possible to let Israel's military run roughshod on Hezbollah long enough to disarm them for a longer period of time. Diplomacy won't accomplish that.

Conyers represents a district with a high population of Muslims so it's understandable that he'd recommend a ceasefire. Still, his 'solution' isn't practical. It's an insult to anyone who hates terrorists.
