A Bump In The Road?

That's how DFL Chairman Brian Melendez is characterizing this week for Democrats. I'm betting that no one's buying that characterization. You know that Dems are having a rotten week when even the Strib is all over them like a cheap suit. Here's the challenges that the Strib sees facing Democrats:
  • Resolving "long-standing friction between the two top candidates for constitutional office, Attorney General Mike Hatch, the party's endorsed gubernatorial candidate, and Rep. Matt Entenza, the DFL endorsee to replace Hatch";
  • A deepening internecine battle in the Minneapolis-centered Fifth Congressional District, a party stronghold;
  • Hatch facing a well-known liberal challenger, Sen. Becky Lourey, DFL-Kerrick, in a primary
If Melendez is selling those as just bumps in the road, then I'm not buying. I doubt anyone not drinking the strongest KoolAid is either. It sounds like Melendez' 'disease' is catchy based on this quote:

Bob Meek, a public relations consultant and veteran DFL activist and observer, said the party's troubles in the past week won't carry over to November. "These are interesting stories for the political class," Meek said. "But anything that happens before the State Fair doesn't touch the public too much. And sometimes, adversity breeds success."

Meek is wrong about that and the Right Blogosphere is the major reason why he's wrong. We remember things like this and we remind people of this type of party-wide character flaw. The Agenda Media could be counted on to forget these serious flaws a month after they happened. The Right Blogosphere isn't that accomodating. We've got longer-lasting memories of cheap politicians' troubles.
